Virtualisation or how cloud computing is here

Just out of the blue it struck me today: it’s virtualisation stupid! All the signs are here and actually it a simple sum of technologies and their evolution. According to Wikipedia it is called cloud computing. The shift from individual PC’s to a ‘cloud’ of computers. Some of the ingredients:

  • gOS: “An alternative OS with Google Apps and other Web 2.0 apps for the modern user.”
  • ASUS Eee pc: a subnotebook with a Linux operating system and a solid state memory (instead of a harddisk).
  • Box.net: “Access and share your files online.”

Most likely these this list is unlimited or at least will have much more names/players involved. All in all this can become an interesting development. I would add ‘cloud access’ a mesh solution to provide access to virtualised resources which includes all (WiFi, WiMAX, HSDPA, xDSL, cable).

However I still think the real future could be information appliances. And somebody please explain me why this name (Jef Raskin) keeps appearing daily…
