Light and shade
This year my trip round the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008 in Milan consisted mostly in hunting free drinks with friends. But once and a while I saw some nice projects. The OR Project was one project which pleasantly surprised me.
The OR Project was presented as a vortex shaped construction in a Milanese cortile. The vortex consisted of many plastic pieces, each piece not much bigger then some 10-15 centimetre. Applied on the plastic was a special photo-reactive surface. This photo-reactive surface made the plastic change hue according the amount of UV-rays.
Low amount of light, the plastic is coloured lightly and thus lets the most amount of available light pass. Instead when a high amount of light the plastic becomes dark and blocks sunlight, thereby providing shading below the structure.
