Must have Mac OS X Software
While I am still very proud of my Powerbook G4 (aka Granny) I am longing for a new Macbook Pro. Simple because Granny is tired and he lost his good looks. Oh well he deserves to spend his last days in an elderly home. However due to a global and private economic crisis, it seems unlikely I will buy a new laptop anywhere soon. But this doesn’t stop me from imagining what I would install on a new Mac.
So here is the list of Mac-software I would install:
- Firefox — a browser (free)
- OpenOffice — like office but open source (free)
- Scrivener — organise and storyboard with texts
- WriteRoom — to concentrate on writing
- Isolator — to help you concentrate (free)
- TweetDeck — for twittering (free)
- TextMate — the code editor
- TextWrangler — another code editor (free)
- Adium — an instant messaging client: gtalk, msn, facebook (free)
- Skype — a VoIP-client (free/paid)
- VLC — a multimedia player (free)
- Cyberduck — a FTP-client (free)
- Paparazzi! — easy screenshots of webpages (free)
- Dropbox — secure backup and sync (2GB free)
- Quicksilver — the best quick launcher (free)
- Transmission — a bittorrent client (free)
- TextExpander — a typing expander
- ScreenFlow — screencasting software
- OmniGraffle — for making diagrams
- Delicious Library 2 — a book catalogue
- Xampp — all-in-one webserver (MySQL, PHP, Perl) (free)
- MacPython — Python IDLE environment (free)
