Workshop: measuring air quality

By a twist of destiny I attended a one-day workshop for the development of an air quality measurement device. The workshop was initiated by Ed Borden (Pachube) and preceded by two other workshops held in Amsterdam and New York. Instead of endless philosophizing about the ever imminent Internet of Things (or IoT), this workshop was aimed at working a prototype. Name of the prototype: the AirQualityEgg.

Although my personal preparation was non-existent, there were folks coming from the UK, Belgium and even Spain. Really inspiring to see such enthusiasm around a theme which impacts us all.

Just by a random internet wandering I stumbled upon La Citta Mobile. A project/collective based in Eindhoven which stimulate creative disciplines to meet and share ideas on how construct and deconstruct a temporary city. Hence the title la citta mobile, the mobile city. (The yearly exodus of Dutch designers to Milan for the Salone del Mobile is clearly leaving its traces)

La Citta Mobile is currently exhibiting on the Dutch Design Week 2010 (until 31th of October) — which I hope to visit. On their blog I found an interesting video, of which I’ve pasted a short trailer below. The full documentary can be found on powerofcommunity.org.
