Picture-driven Programming

In this weeks Whats New (#25) I’ve already mentioned the tool SIKULI. Sikuli allows you to program/automate certain computer tasks by using screenshots. Here is a short demo-video I’ve found on their website. It gives a nice impression of how the software works.

Taking notes on your iPhone

One of the most interesting things I believe the current generation of touch-enabled devices offers is note taking. Dan Bricklin (co-creator of VisiCalc) has created a neat iPhone-app called Note Taker. While it doesn’t look as polished as some other apps, it does have some very interesting thinking in it. See and try for yourself.

Swype: typing by swiping

To type a word with the Swype-technology you basically connect the letters it contains by swiping over them, and based on predictive analysis your words appear.

Video: Prefab – Modifies UI’s

This video from a research group at the University of Washington contains some niffty UI-concepts. It talks about using the open-source software Prefab to correct UI’s on a pixel-level. Thus effectively circumventing proprietary UI-implementations. Lets hope it indeed pushes the envelop on UI design. The video was bluntly copied from a very insightful article on Seattlepi.com.

Video: Human Behaviour and Transformative Technology

Interesting video by Xianhang Zhang (founder of Bumblebee Labs) of a talk he gave at the Mozilla Foundation. The title of his talk was Designing for Social Interaction. On the accompanied post you can find out more.
