Another Blogger Down

March 4th, 2010 · No Comments · Interesting, social media

After yesterday’s goodbye from Spolsky I’ve read today that Alex Payne (engineer at Twitter) also quits blogging for the time being. His rationale:
Lately, I’ve found the cathartic returns from blog-format writing to be diminishing. The ideas I’m trying to express never really get put to rest in my head when I write, now. Instead, they [...]

Spolsky Quits Blogging

March 2nd, 2010 · No Comments · Inspiration, Interesting, Observe, technology

Joel Spolsky founder of Fog Creek software and blogger at Joel on Software is quiting blogging with a modest marketing campaign. Perhaps he is right, perhaps he is wrong. I personally appreciated his blog even-though his articles were often print-quality level. Like a true blogger he says goodbye with an insightful personal post with some important lessons:
To really [...]

YouTube: A Storytelling Mechanism

March 1st, 2010 · 1 Comment · Inspiration, Interaction design, Interesting, technology, video

YouTube is a true marvel of an alternative storytelling mechanism. You start with one video and you yourself determine how the plot continues. I’ve pasted a storyline of myself:

Sunglass Catch

“Catching Glasses” Explanation

Gondry Shoes

And so each person creates his/her own story — no director required. Not surprising one of YouTube greatest innovation is the related video-feature.

Fixation

February 28th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Interesting, Observe

What if — opposite to one’s believes or studies — a person actually performs better doing a completely different job? It seems several people around me are ‘caught’ in this behaviour. Even if I cannot look inside theirs hearts and minds, they do seem to be aware of it themselves as well. But due to [...]

Documentary: Food Inc. – Hungry for Change

February 23rd, 2010 · No Comments · Inspiration, Interesting, Trends, documentary

Although most people are probably aware of most things being said and shown in Food Inc. It is saddening to see how modern or civilized societies have been detached from nature and its pulse. Tomato’s all year round as well as fast-food being cheaper than grown food. Food Inc. shows us a modern food story from patented seeds by Monsanto [...]

Thoughtless Acts on Steroids

February 21st, 2010 · No Comments · Inspiration, Interesting, Observe, Participation

A trademark of American product-design I almost dare call it. Observing how people really use or abuse products is what gave IDEO and alike their reason of existence. The book from IDEO designer Jane Fulton Suri called Thoughtless Act? Observations on Intuitive Design is from 2005 but still very relevant. The book is a collection of observations on [...]

Improve readability with Readability

February 20th, 2010 · No Comments · Inspiration, Interesting

Every since David Pogue wrote about Readability it is buzzing around the web around Readability. Readability is a bookmarklet which improves the readability of text. It does so by (temporary) transforming the text of webpage in a book-like styled text without any clutter in a readable font on a plain background. See the video below [...]
