Innovation on the Edges

Lately I’ve been reading more on innovation — where and what enables it. A common denominator seems to be related with *bottom-up* or to be more precise on **the edges**. In this article an overview of interesting research and a couple of visionaries who are evangelising that: innovation is happening on the edges.

Centre v.s. Edges

First and foremost there is John Seely Brown (ex-Xerox Parc) who has been studying and writing for years on innovation. Currently he is the co-chairman for the [Deloitte Center for the Edge](http://www.deloitte.com/view/en_US/us/Industries/Technology/center-for-edge-tech/index.htm). On Videoblogging

A golden oldie (2007). I’ve posted this video long time ago on my Tumblr-blog. But now I’m posting it here again.

Social web expert Stowe Boyd delivers a concise talk on his vision for *social business*. He shares some profound insights on the impacts of ‘social’ on business. It will impact dramatically. His proposed maxim is:

Nurturing the City

Short video on growing plants and vegetables within the city. Reminds me a bit about [guerilla gardening](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerrilla_gardening) where — as a statement — citizens transform parts of the city in a petite garden.

Co-working Video

A nice podcast on the origins of co-working by Joey Daoud. You can find more interesting movies on [http://www.lifehackingmovie.com/](http://www.lifehackingmovie.com/). Lately I’m amazed with the **digital nativity** with which non-hackers are using the powers of the Web-platform. It feels the more non-hackers are using the the Web the more sense it is all making. Which then reminds me of the words of [Clay Shirky](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Shirky):

Tools don’t get socially interesting until they get technologically boring.
