Op dit moment woon ik op een tijdelijk adres in Amsterdam en ben ik dus niet altijd in de gelegenheid om gewone post te ontvangen. Regelmatig bel ik dan ook mijn lieve ouders om te vragen of er nog post is. Maar de laatste tijd is er bar weinig post. Rara zul je denken. Waarschijnlijk is dit het gevolg van mijn veronlinisering van enige tijd geleden. In deze post deel ik hoe ik mijn hoeveelheid post drastisch heb gereduceerd.
1. Online bankieren
Bij veel banken kun je aangeven dat je geen prijs stelt op de papieren bankafschriften. Waarom zou je ook eigenlijk als je directe toegang hebt tot je betaalgegevens via online bankieren. Overigens ben ik sinds enkele maanden een bewuste klant van de Triodos bank.
Lately I’ve been seeing on more and more places the manifestation of screens or otherwise digital assistants. Their inherent connection with time is being displayed to us. Take for example the traffic light below: it displays the amount of seconds until the light turns green.
While it probably should stimulate people to wait at least 33 seconds, as it gives us the feedforward information allowing us to anticipate eminent green light. But it also captures our focus in a surprisingly strong way. It becomes difficult to not see the time counting down.
Whereas before this type of traffic light, perhaps I was looking at the birds flying by, or a pretty girl walking down the street. Now I feel almost ‘forced’ to witness the countdown — I almost can’t hide from it. The outcome is singular. It captures my attention and makes me aware of the scarcity of time.
