Even with his most famous performance The Köln Concert Jazz pianist Keith Jarrett remains a relative unknown artist to the big audience. And that is a shame. Jarrett trained as a classical pianist has developed himself into the master of improvisation. His ability to improvise has been the inspiration for the documentary called The Art of Inspiration. It provides a backdrop for the person behind the music. But also the toll his playing has brought him. Last but not least is a reference to his inspiration by philosophy. His talks about when on the age of 19 years old he discovered the writings of Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff a Greek-Armenian modern mystic is most known for his Fourth Way — a method to train inner-development by treating body, mind and emotions as one rather than as separate elements. A full review of the documentary can be found on AllAboutJazz and below I´ve embedded the introduction of the documentary.
